All
too often customers come to my office using their automobile policy
from another insurance company and ask myself to "beat the price".
Problem I ask is "do you really know what you have now and what you're
paying for"? Frighteningly, an alarming quantity of them say "I do not
know, no person has ever explained it to me. "
At
this time it's time to stop and perform what My spouse and i call the 3
E's, something I do with every client. Explain, Inform, and Empower
them to make the correct, up to date decision. You see, if the
individual doesn't really know what coverage's they may have, or even
what they're for, how can they know if it's adequate?
Presently
there is too much information in an insurance coverage to cover in one
article, so in this one I will cover my pet peeve, Uninsured and
Underinsured Motorist coverage.
The
moment looking at a 12 , page (the first site of your policy) you will
see a couple of different coverages. One of them is Bodily Injury
Responsibility, which will cover a person if you strike them in an car
accident. For arguments sake suppose it's 100/300. That includes the
other passengers for starters hundred thousand dollars each, up to three
100 thousand per accident. This kind of is fine coverage, and there's
nothing wrong with it.
Now
if you look a little a greater distance down the set of protections
you'll see Uninsured Autos Bodily Injury and Underinsured Bodily Injury.
This is what covers you and your family in an accident. Repeat that to
yourself, this covers my family, pretty important, right? I absolutely
hate to see 100/300 for Actual Injury Liability and then see
Underinsured and Unsured Motorist at a lower limit or even dropped.
Inside
the state of Pennsylvania, the minimum coverage you need to be legal is
15/30 Actual Injury Liability. That means if someone hits you and you
are wounded, their insurance is only going to cover you for 15 1000
dollars with a greatest extent of 30 thousand every accident. If you
have a spouse and 2 young kids like I do, 30 thousand dollars will not
go very far.
The
chances of you having an accident with someone uninsured or
underinsured is about 1 in 5. Because of this, I highly recommend to my
customers, and everyone for that matter, to not use these 2 insurance
coverage when trying to save money. I would alternatively raise the
deductibles on comprehensive and collision than drive around knowing my
family isn't covered properly should someone hit all of us with no
insurance. It can simply not worth the danger.
